Isn’t it strange that in most places the only humans you are legally allowed to hit are children?

As of March 21, all forms of physical punishment against children (such as smacking, hitting, slapping and shaking) is illegal in Wales.

The law change was hailed as “historic” by the Welsh government and a number of child protection champions, who called for England to follow suit.

The law will apply to everybody in Wales, including visitors.

“Today is a historic moment for children and their rights in Wales as we make physically punishing children a thing of the past,” said Julie Morgan, the deputy minister for social services, who has campaigned for the law change for more than two decades.

According to Welsh Government surveys, parents of young children in Wales have shown a significant shift in attitude over the past decade. For example, in 2019, 70% of parents and guardians of young children in Wales disagreed that it is sometimes necessary to smack a child, compared with 59% in a similar survey in 2018.

A Louisiana man has been credited with rescuing a young boy from alligator-infested waters.

Daniel Duplantier jumped into action when he heard a young child calling for help.

According to a Facebook post by the Westwego Volunteer Fire Company, the 5-year-old boy fell into the canal near the pumping station.

Duplantier happened to be watching alligators in the canal when the incident occurred.

He acted fast and successfully pulled the 5-year-old from the water. Rescue crews then helped bring the child safely back across the canal.

The post concluded, “Spring is upon us and Summer is near, keep a close eye on children around waterways and swimming pools.”

“Please give him a plaque and possible a reward. Even if he were at the right place at the right time, he acted a hero. God Bless him and the 5 year old,” one user commented.

“Thank you, sir, for your heroism! Blessings to you all. You protected a family from a lifetime of grief,” wrote another.

A 98-year-old care home resident in the UK has been gifted an official Royal Mail postman’s uniform so that he can look the part while delivering mail to residents.

Ray Stanley took it upon himself to deliver the mail to the residents at Upton Bay Care Home (UBCH) in Poole after moving into the facility.

However, the role is not easy for a 98-year-old man as the care home has three floors.

Stanley wished for a uniform to reflect his hard work, and the care home considered buying one but hoped to find him something authentic.

UBCH staff contacted the Royal Mail to ask if a uniform might be available, and they gifted Stanley an embroidered shirt, cap and iconic red bag.

Stanley wears the uniform on his delivery round which he makes sure to complete before 2 p.m. every day.

“It gives me the chance to talk to other residents, who otherwise I might not see everyday,” he said.

Four Bengal tigers have been rescued from captivity and will spend the rest of their days in a big cat sanctuary in South Africa.

The tigers lived in a train car converted into a cage in the Argentine province of San Luis for over 15 years.

A traveling circus abandoned the now 18-year-old male and 15-year-old female tiger in San Luis in 2007. A local farmer agreed to look after the pair for a temporary period, but the circus never returned. They eventually had two cubs.

The tigers, named Sandro, Mafalda, Messi and Gustavo, now call the LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in Bethlehem, South Africa home.

Four-year-old Shayla Phillips has been found “safe and well” in southern Tasmania more than two days after she was reported missing by her family.

Shayla disappeared on Wednesday afternoon from the backyard of her family’s home while playing with the dog.

The dog was located 700 meters away about five hours later but there was no sign of Shayla.

After two nights alone in the open bushland, Shayla was found — about 1 kilometer from her home.

She was located by a State Emergency Service (SES) ground party “in a heavily wooded and very slopey” terrain.

Police said Shayla was dehydrated and disorientated and was taken to Hobart by ambulance for assessment after being “reacquainted with her mother”

Inspector Gavin Hallett said it was a “very emotional” reunion.

March 25 (UPI) — Police in Canada responded to a Vancouver-area highway to wrangle a loose llama spotted causing drama next to the road.

The Surrey RCMP said officers responded to the east side of Highway 99, near 8th Avenue, after a llama escaped from its owner’s property through a hole in a fence.

Munn said the llama’s owners used sugar cubes to lure the cooperative animal back through the hole.

March 25 (UPI) — A fifth-grade class in Indiana is aiming to spread a little happiness with a special hotline titled, “When Life Gives You Lemons, Call a 5th Grader.”

Cheryl Can Laeken, who teaches fifth grade at Milford School in Wawasee, said she came up with the idea for the phone line with her class after reading about a similar project by a California kindergarten class.

The phone line, 574-832-4965 offers five different options in English and Spanish, including jokes, advice and inspirational quotes.
