The Barents Observer previously reported about Russia’s announced warning zone in the Norwegian Sea, strategically located in the waters between the GIUK-Gap and the Bear Gap.

Now, the Norwegian Joint Headquarters confirms that shooting indeed took place.

“Anti-air weapons were used,” says Lt. Col. Ivar Moen, spokesperson with the Norwegian Armed Forces.

“This was announced and conducted in accordance with the procedures in a professional way,” he notes.

Moen says both artillery and short-ranged anti-air missiles were used. The activities were observed by the Norwegian Coast Guard vessel “KV Nordkapp”.

The Norwegian and Russian vessels communicated bridge to bridge.

The nuclear-powered battle cruiser “Pyotr Veliky” is the Northern Fleet’s command vessel and was sailing together with the destroyer “Severomorsk”. After the shootings far out in the Norwegian Sea, the battlecruiser sailed closer to Norway and is Tuesday morning some 90 to 100 nautical miles west of Andøya, one of the airbases in northern Norway in use during NATO’s Cold Response exercise.

Republicans hoping to seize control of the House in November are already setting their sights on what is, for many of them, a top priority next year: impeaching President Biden.

A number of rank-and-file conservatives have already introduced impeachment articles in the current Congress against the president. They accuse Biden of committing “high crimes” in his approach to a range of issues touching on border enforcement, the coronavirus pandemic and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

Those resolutions never had a chance of seeing the light of day, with Democrats holding a narrow control of the lower chamber. But with Republicans widely expected to win the House majority in the midterms, many of those same conservatives want to tap their new potential powers to oust a president they deem unfit. Some would like to make it a first order of business.

“I have consistently said President Biden should be impeached for intentionally opening our border and making Americans less safe,” said Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.). “Congress has a duty to hold the President accountable for this and any other failures of his Constitutional responsibilities, so a new Republican majority must be prepared to aggressively conduct oversight on day one.”

The conservative impeachment drive is reminiscent of that orchestrated by liberals four years ago, as Democrats took control of the House in 2019 under then-President Trump. At the time, a small handful of vocal progressives wanted to impeach Trump, largely over accusations that he’d obstructed a Justice Department probe into Russian ties to his 2016 campaign. The idea was repeatedly rejected by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), not least out of fear that it would alienate voters in tough battleground districts.

CNN reporter Jamie Gangel led the conversation.

Gangel:

“I want to talk about how the two of you navigated working with former President Trump.”

With a chilling giggle, Schumer replied:

“We had a good time.”

Gangel:

“Was there a strategy when you went into a meeting? Was there a good cop/bad cop?”

Pelosi:

“So I’m thinking, ‘How is he going to begin?’ Is he going to quote the Constitution, American history, [a] poet, the Bible?”

Mocking Trump, Pelosi continued:

“‘You know, I won the popular vote.’ And I said, ‘Mr. President, that’s just not true.’”

Speaking of the first government shutdown, Schumer gleefully shared:

“We sort of set him up, instinctively. We didn’t plan this.”

Pelosi gushed:

“Chuck was masterful. He was masterful.”

Schumer:

“She set him up so I could go in for the kill.”

HONG KONG (LifeSiteNews) — Catholic journalist and outspoken critic of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Jimmy Lai has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison on a conviction of “fraud,” a verdict that has drawn international condemnation and rebuke, with the U.S. calling the charges “spurious” in a public statement.

Jimmy Lai, 75 and founder of the pro-democracy tabloid Apple Daily, was sentenced on Saturday, Dec. 10, with Wong Wai-keung, the administrative director of Apple Daily’s parent company Next Digital. Wong was sentenced to 21 months in prison and Lai to five years and nine months. According to news outlet Hong Kong Free Press (HKFP), the judge also imposed “an eight-year disqualification order to Lai and ordered the media tycoon to pay HK$2 million in fines.”

As HKFP reported, Cédric Alviani, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) East Asia chief urged Lai’s release, stating, “Illegal demonstration, fraud, national security crimes — the diversity of the charges held against Jimmy Lai, and the staggering severity of the sentences imposed on him, show how desperate the Chinese regime is to silence this symbolic figure of press freedom in Hong Kong.”

Meanwhile, a “large portion” of the U.S. power grid is at risk of insufficient electricity supplies during peak winter conditions, the agency concluded in the same analysis.

In other words, it’s about to get cold and dark, all while vegetable prices have exploded by 38% in just the last month, and 80% in the last year, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Actress and activist Alyssa Milano was roundly mocked on social media over the weekend for trading in her Tesla, produced by new Twitter owner Elon Musk, for a Volkswagen. Milano announced she made the move because of “white supremacy”, seemingly unaware that Volkswagen was the brainchild of Adolf Hitler and owned by the Nazi regime.

“I gave back my Tesla. I bought the VW ev. I love it,” Milano tweeted. “I’m not sure how advertisers can buy space on Twitter. Publicly traded company’s products being pushed in alignment with hate and white supremacy doesn’t seem to be a winning business model.”

When two power substations in North Carolina were reportedly taken down by gunfire in an apparent “criminal act,” the establishment media went to work condemning that act. The gunfire caused “damage that could take days to repair and leaving tens of thousands of people without electricity,” reported the Associated Press, and most establishment media outlets echoed the sentiment.

Yet the Associated Press had no condemnation for Joe Biden shutting down oil pipelines and drilling permits that ultimately provide energy resources for hundreds of millions of Americans. Similarly, there is no establishment media outlet condemning the seizure of 3,000 farms by the government of The Netherlands. In all, reports PeterSweden, as many as 11,200 farms may be forced to shut down in The Netherlands in order to meet so-called “climate goals.”

This is critical food infrastructure that feeds families across Europe and around the world. It is not a trivial thing to start dismantling thousands of farms upon which millions of people depend.

(LifeSiteNews) — Bishop Thomas Daly of Spokane, Washington, blasted the rise of LGBT ideology in Catholic education, calling it “tragic and sinful” in an interview with the National Catholic Register.

Daly, the chairman of Catholic Education Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), condemned the erasure of parents’ rights at public schools in comments to the Register at the USCCB’s fall meeting in November.

He also noted that transgender ideology has become increasingly prevalent in Catholic schools and that some are even allowing students to “pick your own pronouns” under the pretense of “being affirming and welcoming.”

Gender ideology should have “no place” in schools, Daly told the Register, adding that it is particularly “tragic and sinful” when it permeates Catholic higher education institutions.

The Washington bishop addressed increasing LGBT identification among youth and said he believes that social media plays a “significant part” in the growth of gender confusion.
