You might have recently recorded what you thought was the perfect TikTok, YouTube video, or Instagram reel, only to play it back and cringe at the sound of your voice. Or maybe you’re a public speaker who has to painstakingly listen to yourself rehearse before giving a big speech. Many people react with disgust at the sound of their own voice when they hear it on recordings, even though they hear it every day when they speak. In one 2005 study, patients and clinicians rated the quality of their voice and consistently rated it more negatively than the objective physicians did (via Clinical Otolaryngology).

Actually, late psychologists Philip Holzman and Clyde Rousey coined the term “voice confrontation” to define this phenomenon back in 1966. Basically, the reason we all cringe so much when we hear our voices recorded and don’t do so when we hear ourselves talking is due to differences in what you expect your voice to sound like and what you actually hear when the tapes are rolled back.

On Sunday, July 15th, 67-year-old Colin Lee Showard has been accused of driving a forklift towards his girlfriend, who was sitting in a car, pinning her to the side of a bus.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on the 2100 block of Calumet Street. Clearwater, Florida. Showard was arguing with a woman who was trying to leave. the situation escalated when Colin got into a forklift and rammed the vehicle into the car his girlfriend was sitting in, pinning her to a bus.

The clear water police were alerted to the scene, the girlfriend suffered back injuries after the vehicle collision. The police questioned Colin as to why he rammed his girlfriend, Colin admitted he did it because he didn’t want the woman to leave.

‘Need for a Special Master Remains’: Trump Lawyer Refutes DOJ Claim

A lawyer for former President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused the Department of Justice (DOJ) of demanding the court “stand down from even considering” appointing a “special master” to review documents seized by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago.

Lawyer Lindsey Halligan argued the DOJ’s response underscored the need for a special master.

“While DOJ may have succeeded in taking a partial filter to their rummaged proceeds, the need for a Special Master remains in place,” Halligan wrote in a brief filed ahead of a hearing on Thursday (pdf).

“Assuring access by [Trump’s] counsel to the seized materials, sharing an actual (detailed) inventory, making independent attorney-client privilege assessments, and making executive privilege determinations are all responsibilities that are best served by appointment of a Special Master.”

A Little Faith in Humanity

Perhaps it’s a sad critique of the world we live in when a story like the following is classified as “weird” — but greed abounds in this modern age, so when an act of kindness rises above the usual dreck, it is weird news indeed. Eduardo Martinez of Honduras, who works near Broadway in New York, probably expected a more typical ending to his story: On March 2, as he rushed to get to work through jam-packed Times Square, Martinez dropped his wallet. Losing his IDs and personal effects would have been devastating enough, but Martinez also had $4,000 in cash inside his billfold. As he waded through the crowd of tourists and searched the ground, two police officers approached and informed him that the wallet had been picked up by a fellow commuter and turned over safe and sound — with all $4,000 intact. Here’s to happy endings!

This Gig Stinks

Omni, a plant-based pet food company in Britain, is offering a lucky(?) few dog owners more than $6,000 to “record their experience of introducing their dog to a plant-based diet, monitoring their bowel movements, stool odor, health, energy levels, behavior, sleep pattern and physical attributes, such as weight, skin and fur condition” over a period of two months, according to the company’s website. Omni will provide a free supply of its pet food for the gig and will cover the cost of visits to a pet nutritionist, who will oversee the pets’ transition to plant-based food. Those dog owners who successfully complete the poop-monitoring period will earn the aforementioned cash for their work, while their dogs will receive a supply of dog toys and vegan treats. Applications will be accepted on Omni’s website through March 31.

The Coming Famine (Amos 8:11-14)

Theodore Roosevelt said, “A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.” In today’s world, far more than TR’s world, a college education is almost indispensable—It is difficult find a good-paying job without some post-secondary education. But a knowledge of the Scriptures is far more important than a college education. The Scriptures tell man where he came from and where he is going. The Scriptures tell man how to live, how to prevent heartache from coming into his life.

The Scriptures tell man of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of mankind, and how to have his sins removed so that he can live in heaven eternally.

But what if the Bible were taken away? What if the government were to come into our homes and remove our Bibles? We would not know how to live or how to prevent heartache from coming into our lives—we would remember basic morality, but we would begin to forget all that God wanted. We would begin to forget all the stories of Jesus and how he aided those around him. We would have no basis for sharing our faith with others, for there would be no authority to which we could point.

It is Coronation Time!

On Saturday, February 24th, a woman jogging through Northdale-Lake Park Trail, Lutz, Florida, was disrobed of her shorts, whilst the suspect fled as he waved her garments over his head.

At approximately 3:45 pm, a woman who was out jogging westbound near the exit of the Lake Park Trail towards her home. The attacker approached from behind and pushed the victim to the ground, he began to disrobe her pulling off her shorts. After taking off her shorts he ran eastbound o the trail whilst he waved her shorts above his head.

Corporal Larry McKinnon of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said “Anyone that knocks you down and pulls your pants off, it doesn’t take much to start figuring out what’s a potential next step in that particular type of scenario, If it’s going to be a robbery, they take some type of valuables, In this case, it’s a very bizarre set of circumstances. He just knocks her down, takes her shorts and then goes off running into the woods.”
