Confessions of Greed

Greed leads to a lonely place. I know because for a short time in my life, I lived there.

And it’s a cruel master when you become its slave. Nothing is ever enough. Nothing can satisfy. Worse yet, it deceives us into thinking we will run out  of the very thing that often keeps us locked in its grasp.

The Bible warns us about greed repeatedly. Luke 12:15 tells us, “Then he said, ‘Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.’”

When does the Bible ever tell us to beware of something without good cause?

Bible Study Tools: Genesis 3:15 : And I will put enmity between thee and the woman.

Between whom there had been so much familiarity, not only while they had the preceding discourse together, but before; for it is conjectured by some F25, that she took a particular liking to that creature, and was delighted with it, and laid it perhaps in her bosom, adorned her neck with its windings, or made it a bracelet for her arms; and being a peculiar favourite, the devil made choice of it as his instrument to deceive her; but now being beguiled hereby, she conceived an antipathy against it, and which is become natural between the serpent and man; man abhors the sight of a serpent, and the serpent the sight of man; and the spittle of a man and the gall of a serpent are poison to each other; and this antipathy is observed to be stronger in the female sex: and this was not only true of the particular serpent that deceived Eve, and of the particular woman, Eve, deceived by him, but of every serpent and of every woman in successive ages; and is also true of Satan and the church of God in all ages, between whom there is an implacable and an irreconcilable hatred, and a perpetual war:

Bible Study Tools: Genesis 3:15 : It shall bruise thy head.

The head of a serpent creeping on the ground is easily crushed and bruised, of which it is sensible, and therefore it is careful to hide and cover it.

In the mystical sense, “it”, or “he, Hu”, which is one of the names of God, ( Psalms 102:27 ) ( Isaiah 48:12 ) and here of the Messiah, the eminent seed of the woman, should bruise the head of the old serpent the devil, that is, destroy him and all his principalities and powers, break and confound all his schemes, and ruin all his works, crush his whole empire, strip him of his authority and sovereignty, and particularly of his power over death, and his tyranny over the bodies and souls of men; all which was done by Christ, when he became incarnate and suffered and died, ( Hebrews 2:14 Hebrews 2:15 ) ( Colossians 2:15 ) ( 1 John 3:8 )

WARNINGS FROM GOD – THE LAST CRISIS ON EARTH

– God always warned men about the judgments that were going to fall on them.

Those who had faith in his message for his time and acted on it, in obedience to his commands, escaped the judgments that fell on the disobedient and unbelieving.

To Noah these words were addressed: “Go you and all your house into the ark; because I have seen you right in front of me.”

Noah obeyed, and was saved.

This message came to Lot: “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord is going to destroy this city” (Gen. 7:1; 19:14).

Lot put himself in the custody of the heavenly messengers, and was saved.

So too, the disciples of Christ were warned about the destruction of Jerusalem.

Those who took notice of the sign of impending doom and fled the city escaped destruction.

So also now, we have been warned about the second coming of Christ and the destruction that is to overtake the world.

Those who heed the warning will be saved.p

HARD TIMES WILL COME – THE LAST CRISIS ON EARTH

– The time of trouble, which will increase until the end, is at hand.

No time to lose.

The world is stirred with the spirit of war.

The prophecies of Daniel chapter 11 have almost reached their final fulfillment.

The time of trouble–trouble such as has not been since there was a nation [Dan. 12:1]
– is imminent, and we find ourselves like the sleeping virgins.

We must wake up and ask the Lord Jesus to hold us in his everlasting arms and carry us through the time of trial that is before us.

The world is becoming more and more anarchic.

Soon a great anguish will overtake the nations, a anguish that will not cease until Jesus comes.

We are on the eve of the time of trouble, and hardly suspected difficulties await us.

We are at the very threshold of the crisis of the centuries.

In quick succession, God’s punishments will follow one another: fires and floods, earthquakes, wars and bloodshed.

Stormy times are before us, but let us not utter a word of disbelief or discouragement.

1 Corinthians 8 – Fake Food : Take Care with Your Liberty.

1 Now about food sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge [concerning this]. Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom].

2 If anyone imagines that he knows and understands anything [of divine matters, without love], he has not yet known as he ought to know.

3 But if anyone loves God [with awe-filled reverence, obedience and gratitude], he is known by Him [as His very own and is greatly loved].

4 In this matter, then, of eating food offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world [it has no real existence], and that there is no God but one.

5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,

6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, [a]who is the source of all things, and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things [that have been created], and we [believers exist and have life and have been redeemed] through Him.

7 However, not all [believers] have this knowledge. But some, being accustomed [throughout their lives] to [thinking of] the idol until now [as real and living], still eat food [b]as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and because their conscience is weak, it is defiled (guilty, ashamed).

8 Now food will not commend us to God nor bring us close to Him; we are no worse off if we do not eat, nor are we better if we do eat.

9 Only be careful that this liberty of yours [this power to choose] does not somehow become a stumbling block [that is, a temptation to sin] to the weak [in conscience].

10 For if someone sees you, a person having [c]knowledge, [d]eating in an idol’s temple, then if he is weak, will he not be encouraged to eat things sacrificed to idols [and violate his own convictions]?

11 For through your knowledge (spiritual maturity) this weak man is ruined [that is, he suffers in his spiritual life], the brother for whom Christ died.

12 And when you sin against the brothers and sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience [by confusing them], you sin against Christ.

13 Therefore, if [my eating a certain] food causes my brother to stumble (sin), I will not eat [such] meat ever again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

👉 1 Corinthians 8:7 In Paul’s viewpoint, meat sold at the market place (even if it had been used in idol worship) was permissible food because a pagan sacrifice was meaningless, and the meat itself could not be contaminated by any such ritual (cf Mark 7:19). Some who had accepted Christ worried that they were violating their new faith if they ate any meat without knowing its origin first-hand.

THE FLIGHT OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD: THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES AND THE RIGHTEOUS

.

– But no one can cross the cordon of the powerful guardians placed around each faithful. Some are attacked while fleeing cities and towns. But the swords raised against them break and fall like straw. Others are defended by angels in the form of warriors.

THE REMNANT MAKES GOD THEIR DEFENSE: THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES AND THE RIGHTEOUS.

– This small remnant, unable to defend themselves in the deadly conflict against the powers of Earth commanded by the dragon host, makes God their defense. The decree has been promulgated by the highest earthly authority that they worship the beast and receive his mark, under pain of persecution and death. God help his people then! Because what could he do without his help in such a terrible conflict.

ARGUMENTS USED AGAINST GOD’S PEOPLE: THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES AND THE RIGHTEOUS

– From the pulpits of popular churches will be heard the declaration that the world is being punished because Sunday is not honored as it should be. It will be insistently demanded that the few who oppose an institution of the church and a law of the State not be tolerated; for it is better that these few suffer than that whole nations be precipitated into confusion and anarchy.

MANY WILL BE CALLED TO REST BEFORE THE TIME OF TROUBLE: THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES AND THE RIGHTEOUS.

– It is not always safe to ask for unconditional healing…He knows if those prayed for will be able to withstand the afflictions and trials that will befall them if they survive. He knows the end from the beginning. Many will be called to the sleep of death before the terrible trials of the time of trouble come upon our world.
