Police detained a man in Burien Wednesday morning after he crashed his car in a residential yard and tried to take off with his pet monkey.

A state trooper clocked the man’s driving speed at 112 mph about 8 a.m. on state Route 509, according to Burien police.

The driver exited at South 128th Street in Burien and lost control of his vehicle, hitting a large rock in someone’s yard, reports say.

Witnesses say the driver jumped out of his car and started to run away, but returned to retrieve his pet monkey — and took off again.

Burien police officers found the man and his monkey near the scene and detained them for leaving the site of a crash.

The Burien Police Department says cops determined the monkey was not the driver and released him to a family member.
