to the Bible
We have heard others say that we need to be humble servants of God, and not give in to pride. The world celebrates those who are humble, and we want to be seen as part of that group of people. As believers, we need to know how to be humble according to the Bible to avoid a false humility that comes from being religious.
It’s hard to describe what feeling numb is like, but you’ll intuitively know it if you’ve felt it. Know that you’re not alone.
Many people report feeling disconnected from the world around them sometimes, feeling “flat,” or feeling like life is on autopilot. Perhaps events and people seem muted, or less colorful somehow.
It can also be described as chronically running on empty, feeling ungrounded, having a hard time focusing, or losing track of time throughout the day. Feeling numb can make it hard to connect with others, which creates loneliness or a sense of isolation in your experience.
Emotional numbness, also called “affective blunting,” is most commonly associated with depression. It can also occur with other mental health conditions and medications. It can be linked with states like dissociation or depersonalization — feelings of being disconnected from yourself, your emotions, or your surroundings.
The good news is, emotional numbness is usually temporary and treatable. This article will walk you through causes, treatment, self-help strategies, and additional resources.
The chase is perhaps the best example of where rational humans enter the realm of obsessive, manipulative, and non-sensical behavior. Level headed individuals find themselves unable to focus, always thinking about a person, and intensely staring at their WhatsApp waiting for a blue tick and reply.
It’s important to note that you can chase someone without lusting for them and vice versa — though they are often intertwined. The critical distinction between lust and the chase is the triggering of rewards-based behavior, i.e., the desire to pursue a goal (the person). For example, I lust for the Red Woman, but I have no interest in being her Lord of Light.
The chemical most responsible for driving this internal reaction is Dopamine.
Testosterone is responsible for the development of the male reproductive system, alongside promoting muscle, bone, and hair growth. Both men and women possess the hormone, although males have eight times the level of females on average (Sandnes, 2004).
In a nutshell, testosterone is what makes you horny. Research has shown that even after castration, rats administered with the hormone experience a remarkable return of sex drive. Further studies on humans have shown that the increase in androgen receptors from higher levels of testosterone contribute to the increased libido. It’s also been shown that women with higher circulating levels of testosterone have more sexual thoughts, a greater desire for sex, and higher mean levels of sexual activity (Morris, 1987).
Men’s testosterone levels are sensitive to the ovulation cycle of a woman. If you’re a guy, you might have experienced a seemingly random spike in attraction for a woman who you wouldn’t ordinarily see that way. The Ovulatory Shift hypothesis suggests that males are adapted to sense when a woman is most fertile and experience a subsequent rise in the hormone. In other words, you may find yourself highly aroused around certain women without knowing why, thanks to the evolution of Testosterone in males.
Finally, studies have found that men with less Testosterone are more likely to be in a relationship or married. This makes sense when we correlate sexual desire with levels of the hormone — it’s harder to voluntarily restrict yourself to one person when you find yourself continually lusting for sexual encounters with others.
If you’re a guy struggling to understand your fear of relationships, this could be a significant influence. Similarly, if you’re dating a man who is reluctant to commit, it may be less about his feelings for you and more about his overriding biology. Yes, this can be considered immature, but it’s down to you to push for commitment or be willing to walk away.

- Men’s levels increase unconsciously in response to the fertility of a woman
- Lower levels of Testosterone are associated with relationships and marriage
