Police detained a man in Burien Wednesday morning after he crashed his car in a residential yard and tried to take off with his pet monkey.

A state trooper clocked the man’s driving speed at 112 mph about 8 a.m. on state Route 509, according to Burien police.

The driver exited at South 128th Street in Burien and lost control of his vehicle, hitting a large rock in someone’s yard, reports say.

Witnesses say the driver jumped out of his car and started to run away, but returned to retrieve his pet monkey — and took off again.

Burien police officers found the man and his monkey near the scene and detained them for leaving the site of a crash.

The Burien Police Department says cops determined the monkey was not the driver and released him to a family member.

An Indian government official has been suspended after ordering a reservoir to be drained so he could find his phone.

Food inspector Rajesh Vishwas dropped his Samsung smartphone in Kherkatta dam while taking a selfie, The Times of India newspaper reported.

Over three days, more than two million litres of water were pumped from the reservoir so he could retrieve it.

The waterlogged phone was recovered, but would not switch on.

Mr Vishwas first asked divers to search for the phone, claiming it contained sensitive government data.

When they could not find it, he asked for the reservoir to be emptied using diesel pumps.

The water emptied from the dam would be enough to irrigate at least 1,500 acres of land, local media reported.

Man sues Apple claiming iPhone turned him gay Published 4 October 2019

GETTY IMAGES

A Russian man has launched a lawsuit against Apple, claiming an iPhone app turned him gay.

He says this comes after an incident involving GayCoin crypto-currency.

Saying he suffered moral harm, he is asking for one million rubles (£12,000), according to a copy of the complaint seen by the news agency, AFP.

Homosexuality was decriminalised in Russia in 1993, but anti-gay prejudice is still widespread.

In 2013, Russia passed legislation banning the spreading of what it described as gay propaganda.

This officially bans the “promotion of non-traditional lifestyles to minors” but in effect outlaws LGBT activism. A number of campaigners have been attacked and killed in the past year.

So what’s happened?

In a suit filed on 20 September, it is claimed a crypto-currency called “GayCoin” was delivered via a smartphone app, rather than the Bitcoin he had ordered.

Crypto-currency is basically virtual money – like an online version of cash – and Bitcoin and GayCoin are some of those currencies

According to the complaint, the GayCoin crypto-currency arrived with a note saying: “Don’t judge until you try”.

“I thought, in truth, how can I judge something without trying? I decided to try same-sex relationships,” the complainant wrote.

“Now I have a boyfriend and I do not know how to explain this to my parents.”

He adds that his “life has been changed for the worse” and he “will never become normal again”.

Apple “pushed” him “towards homosexuality through manipulation”, he claims.

“The changes have caused me moral and mental harm.”

Sapizhat Gusnieva says the company “has a responsibility for their programmes” despite the alleged exchange taking place on a third-party app.

The court will hear the complaint on 17 October, according to information on its website.

Apple has not yet responded to Newsbeat’s request for comment.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A curious toddler on Tuesday earned the title of one of the tiniest White House intruders after he squeezed through the metal fencing on the north side of the executive mansion.

U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers, who are responsible for security at the White House, walked across the North Lawn to retrieve the tot and reunite him with his parents on Pennsylvania Avenue. Access to the complex was briefly restricted while officers conducted the reunification. Officers briefly questioned the parents before allowing them to continue on their way.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said officers “encountered a curious young visitor along the White House north fence line who briefly entered White House grounds.”

“The White House security systems instantly triggered Secret Service officers and the toddler and parents were quickly reunited,” he said in a statement.

It may be the first successful intrusion onto the complex since the White House fence was doubled in height to roughly 13 feet (3.96-meters) in recent years after a series of security breaches. While taller, the new fence has an additional inch of space between pickets, for a total of 5½ inches (12.7 centimeters) between posts.

Older children have sometimes become stuck in the iconic barrier, which has also been the scene of demonstrations, with protesters chaining themselves to the fence.

Vienna nudists oppose plans for cable car over their beach April 21, 2023

BERLIN (AP) — Nudists in Austria are up in arms about plans for a cable car that would pass over a popular beach on the northern edge of Vienna where clothing is optional.

The country’s Austria Press Agency on Friday quoted nudist Barbara Hausjell saying she feared for her privacy if cable car users with cellphone cameras are allowed to swoop across the area.

“I don’t want to end up on the internet,” the 72-year-old told APA.

Project developer Hannes Dejaco sought to reassure nudists, saying the cable cars would only pass over the beach for a short stretch. In addition, the windows could be made to turn opaque automatically, he was quoted as saying.

A promotional video for the cable car project says it would go from the Heiligenstadt transit station across the Danube river and then back over to the Kahlenberg, a small mountain in the north of the capital. Some 115 gondolas with panoramic windows would offer a “breathtaking view across Vienna,” it says.
