The Bible describes a spirit of antichrist already operating in the world, but it also points toward a specific individual who will emerge during the closing chapter of human history.
Daniel describes an extraordinarily powerful ruler.
Paul calls him the “man of lawlessness” and “son of destruction.” Revelation presents him as the Beast whose authority eventually reaches across nations and peoples.
This is not merely an impersonal political system.
Scripture repeatedly describes an individual who speaks, acts, deceives, makes agreements, persecutes God’s people and ultimately exalts himself against God.
But here is where our popular image of the Antichrist may lead us astray.
He may not initially look anything like the monster people expect.
