Experts: Metallic object that crashed into New Jersey home was a meteorite

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A metallic object that punched a hole in the roof of a central New Jersey home this week, smashing into a hardwood floor and bouncing around a bedroom, was a meteorite, experts announced Thursday.

Scientists with The College of New Jersey determined the 6-by-4-inch object, which weighs about 2.2 pounds, is a rare stony chondrite meteorite. They came to that conclusion after conducting a visual examination, making density measurements and scanning electron microscope images. They were assisted in their work by Jerry Delaney, a retired meteorite expert from Rutgers University and the American Museum of Natural History.

“Getting the chance to examine the meteorite (Wednesday) was a rare and thrilling opportunity for me, as well as for a group of physics students and professors at TCNJ,” said Nathan Magee, chair of the school’s physics department. “We are excited to be able to confirm that the object is a true chondrite meteorite, in excellent condition, and one of a very small number of similar witnessed chondrite falls known to science.”

A Famine Of God’s Word

 

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord, but shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12)

A Famine Of God’s Word

One of the greatest killers of mankind is the severe shortage of food resulting in widespread hunger or famine. Thirty million people died in China when famine struck in the late 50’s and early ’60s. Millions die from malnutrition and starvation each year, especially in the sub-Saharan African countries. From the beginning of time there have been various causes of famine brought on by natural disasters, infestations of insects, wars and failed policies of governments. Untold millions have died a slow and horrible death of famishment. The Bible reveals famines during the days of Abraham, and Isaac, and the great famine in the world during the days of Joseph when he rescued Egypt from destruction. During the period of the Judges and reign of David, there were famines. There was a severe famine in Samaria during the days of Ahab and Jezebel when Elijah and Elisha prophesied. The people of God were punished with the sword, judgment, pestilence, and famine seeking to bring them back to the Lord. God used the scarcity of food to impress upon His own people a day would come when there would not be a famine of food but an absence of the divine word. Knowing a famine was coming would strike terror and cause the heart to faint at the inability to find food. People would become frantic seeking ways to endure the blight of famine. During the days of Uzziah king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel, the prophet Amos brought the reality of God’s judgment upon the people who had become secure in their prosperity of the golden age of the northern kingdom. There was a great social and economic revival in the land with the people enjoying a prosperous time of ease and wealth. Amos would talk about those who lay on beds of ivory stretching themselves on couches and eating lambs from the flocks and calves from the stalls. There was music that filled the land and wine flowing freely in the bowls not knowing a famine was coming. This famine was not in the absence of food but the famine of the word of God. No greater famine has plagued man than when the word of God is scarce. Like the famine of food, spiritual famine will bring certain death.

WHAT WE CAN EXPECT – THE LAST CRISIS ON EARTH

– Before his crucifixion, the Savior had predicted to his disciples that he would be killed and rise from the grave, and angels were present to engrave those words on minds and hearts (Mark 8: 31, 32; 9:31; 10:32-34).

But the disciples looked forward to political liberation from the Roman yoke and could not tolerate the idea that the one on whom all their hopes were concentrated should die an ignominious death.

They banished the words they needed to remember from their minds, and when the time came to test them they found them unprepared.

The death of Jesus destroyed their hopes just as if it had not been predicted.

Likewise, the prophecies announce the future to us with the same clarity with which Christ predicted his own death to the disciples.

The events related to the end of probation and the preparation for the time of trouble have been clearly presented.

But there are thousands of people who understand these important truths as incompletely as if they had never been revealed.

WARNINGS FROM GOD – THE LAST CRISIS ON EARTH

– God always warned men about the judgments that were going to fall on them.

Those who had faith in his message for his time and acted on it, in obedience to his commands, escaped the judgments that fell on the disobedient and unbelieving.

To Noah these words were addressed: “Go you and all your house into the ark; because I have seen you right in front of me.”

Noah obeyed, and was saved.

This message came to Lot: “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord is going to destroy this city” (Gen. 7:1; 19:14).

Lot put himself in the custody of the heavenly messengers, and was saved.

So too, the disciples of Christ were warned about the destruction of Jerusalem.

Those who took notice of the sign of impending doom and fled the city escaped destruction.

So also now, we have been warned about the second coming of Christ and the destruction that is to overtake the world.

Those who heed the warning will be saved.p

HARD TIMES WILL COME – THE LAST CRISIS ON EARTH

– The time of trouble, which will increase until the end, is at hand.

No time to lose.

The world is stirred with the spirit of war.

The prophecies of Daniel chapter 11 have almost reached their final fulfillment.

The time of trouble–trouble such as has not been since there was a nation [Dan. 12:1]
– is imminent, and we find ourselves like the sleeping virgins.

We must wake up and ask the Lord Jesus to hold us in his everlasting arms and carry us through the time of trial that is before us.

The world is becoming more and more anarchic.

Soon a great anguish will overtake the nations, a anguish that will not cease until Jesus comes.

We are on the eve of the time of trouble, and hardly suspected difficulties await us.

We are at the very threshold of the crisis of the centuries.

In quick succession, God’s punishments will follow one another: fires and floods, earthquakes, wars and bloodshed.

Stormy times are before us, but let us not utter a word of disbelief or discouragement.

Explosions rock Damascus during Macron visit

Macron was on the way to the Presidential Palace to meet with his Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa when the blasts occurred and he did not hear any of them, according to the French Presidency.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Two explosions rocked Damascus on Tuesday with several outlets suggesting they occurred near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron is staying.

Macron was on the way to the Presidential Palace to meet with his Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa when the blasts occurred and he did not hear any of them, according to the French Presidency.

It added that no changes had occurred in Macron’s agenda and that the visit would continue.

The explosions were near the tourism ministry, Syrian state media reported, which is across the road from the Four Seasons Hotel, where Macron is reportedly staying.

Footage circulating on social media showed a van and a motorcycle on fire with blood stains on the floor. The number of casualties remains unknown as of the time of writing this article.

Macron arrived in Syria on Monday, marking the first visit from a European head of state since Bashar al-Assad was ousted in December 2024.

The visit marks the first by a French president to Damascus since Nicolas Sarkozy in 2009, before longtime Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad crushed pro-democracy protests in 2011.

On Sunday, the Syrian presidency said Macron’s visit would be alongside a high-level delegation that includes investors and representatives of French companies, as the two sides seek to expand economic ties.

Earlier in May, Sharaa was received by Macron in Paris in the latter’s inaugural European visit since ascending to power in December, offering a seminal moment for Damascus to capture Western goodwill and engage in diplomatic outreach in the pursuit of legitimacy for his administration.

Along with his delegation, the French president is also taking back archaeological artifacts “that were loaned to the Arab World Institute in 2010 and which, for obvious reasons, were not able to be returned to Syria,” the Elysee said.
