#India has maintained longstanding ties with #Iran while also developing closer relations with the #UnitedStates and #Israel.
Pezeshkian’s visit comes as #Tehran faces continued U.S. #military and #economic pressure and disputes with #Washington over the #StraitOfHormuz.
Iran has kept the critical waterway largely closed since the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran began in February, disrupting a major route for #global energy shipments.
Tehran and #Oman have reached a new understanding on shipping #arrangements for the strait, but Iranian officials said Saturday that Hormuz would not fully reopen unless the United States meets Iran’s conditions.
Those demands and the broader conflict are likely to remain central issues as Pezeshkian seeks support from fellow #BRICS members during the two-day gathering in New Delhi.
